Abstract

The Cantilever bridges consist of two spans formed by consecutive segments that originate from two adjancent columns, brought together in the middle by Gerber girder or by a closing segment. These kinds of bridges present several constructive solutions, such as steel structures or concrete arch girder, generally saving great amount of spans with no need of any spare structures. Bridges built with the cantilevered method demand a special care as far as calculation is concerned. The complexity of calculation is greater than the one required for any other kind of minor construction. There are important sections to be checked, as well as the evolution of the static scheme of the construction. These kind of projects must take into account the time factor, because of the fact that during construction non-elastic properties of the materias involved start to develop. The concrete creep and the steel relaxation imply deflections problems and redistribution of tension on the structures. Therefore, we believe on the relevance of showing the considerations and calculations as part of the project elaboration of the bridge over Cuiaba river.
