About the Journal

Focus and scope:

Since its first issue appeared in June 2001, Humanidades: revista de la Universidad de Montevideo is a scientific, peer-reviewed (double-blind) and interdisciplinary publication of Philosophy, History and Literature, published by the Facultad de Humanidades y Educación of the Universidad de Montevideo. Since its second period started in 2017, is published as a continuous publication every six months (January-June and July-December). Under this modality, the publication of the texts is carried out immediately after their approval and layout. The texts submitted to its two main sections - Studies and Articles - are linked to these areas of knowledge; it also encourages the publication of contents that make evident the relationships between the aforementioned disciplines and their links with other related humanistic areas.

The Studies section presents a monographic theme approved by the Editorial Board. The Articles section, on the other hand, may accompany the Studies section or be independent. The Reviews section is entrusted with the critical evaluation of some of the bibliographical novelties that come to the journal's attention. The issues of the journal may include an interview.

The journal accepts scientific contributions, always original and unpublished, from specialists from various national and foreign centres, and the texts are published in Spanish, English, French and Portuguese.

Humanidades is an academic journal aimed at a specialised public and its objective is to constitute an open forum in which the disciplines dialogue with each other and contribute new knowledge. The members of the journal and its contributors are driven by the conviction that  ‘Humanity is what gives raison d'être and justification to all utility’, as the editorial of its first issue puts it.
