The dispute over public spaces as agents of communication through art has characterised the development of urban fabrics throughout the 20th century. The projected public monuments, private undertakings, the displacement and/or change of location of certain images, the destruction of works, interventions and even vandalism have been, among others, many of the factors that have determined the existence of urban artistic languages throughout this century.
Within the framework of the studies on "Memory and public art throughout the twentieth century", and emphasising the relevance of urban space as a determining medium for the consolidation of a particular worldview, we intend to bring together studies and articles that researchers interested in this subject may wish to send us. We offer a non-exhaustive list of possible themes: 1) Public works of art from a political point of view; 2) Monuments and sculptures within the logic of urban aesthetics; 3) The challenges of the conservation of public art; 4) Interventions in public art; 5) Public art and formal education.
The deadline for submission of papers is October 30, 2021.
