The most recent evolution of war studies or polemology has favoured the consolidation of historiographic lines that increasingly integrate cultural elements into the analysis of war conflicts, considerably broadening the dominant trend in the discipline, which has traditionally focused on military history (Alegre and Alonso 2018). In this line, the periodical press is presented as a very useful input to complement other equally relevant sources, such as official documents, private correspondence, memoirs and personal diaries, among others. After all, newspapers and magazines were fundamental for the involvement of society - as a domestic front - in armed confrontations, they contributed to shaping the perceptions and emotions of the civilian population in the face of the theatre of war (local, regional, global), influencing identification processes and the configuration of stories and imaginaries, and thus operating as political-cultural interventions in communities close to or distant from the conflicts.

This call aims to bring together works that are the result of innovative research on the impact of various war processes (civil wars, guerrillas, insurrections, military occupations, terrorism, armed interventions, world wars) in journals during the 19th and 20th centuries, taking into account that these constitute supports that can provide an original perspective on the study of conflicts and that, at the same time, have been little required -as sources- by historiography for the analysis of this type of phenomena.

The thematic axes that guide the call are:

1) Wariness, neutrality and pacifism.

2) Production and circulation of journals in times of conflict

3) Visual record and graphic culture.

4) Chronicles from the front, correspondents, testimonies of occupation, combat and survival.

5) Figures of the enemy and the ally.

6) Debates, polemics, plots and propaganda.

7) Networks, institutions, cultural life and intellectual cooperation during the war.

8) War, culture and emotions.

9) The writers and literature of war.

The deadline for submission of papers is October 30, 2020.
