Abstract

Subjectivity is truth, asserts a famous passage from the Concluding Unscientific Postscript, widely discussed by Kierkegaardian scholars. To be a subject is to always be wrong, asserts Markus Gabriel in another concluding passage of his thought. Both statements respond to the same (neo-) existential conception, determined by the dialectic of a possible and powerful negativity. Illuminating the reasons for this convergence, as well as explaining why subjectivity is radically fallible, and at the same time identical with truth, is the purpose of this work, which will find—between Kierkegaard and Gabriel—the conceptual background of absolute idealism. Indeed, Friedrich W. J. Schelling 's potency—Potenz—and Georg W. F. Hegel’ spirit—Geist— will intervene in this neo-existential dialogue.
