Religión como tratamiento complementario, posibles consecuencias en la terapéutica. Revisión

Resumo

O objetivo desta revisão foi procurar sistematicamente evidências sobre se a religião desempenha um papel na progressão de uma doença ou enfermidade quando utilizada como adjuvante do tratamento tradicional. Um total de 6 estudos preencheram os critérios de seleção, mostrando que não existem diferenças significativas entre as diferentes terapias (terapia convencional versus terapia convencional + abordagem espiritual/religiosa). Verificou-se também que, em doentes com depressão grave e doença crónica, a religião pode promover a presença de sentimentos positivos. Em idosos com doenças crónicas, pode verificar-se um menor nível de fadiga ou “mais energia” para realizar as actividades diárias. Em doentes com cancro, pode aumentar o nível de espiritualidade, melhorar o bem-estar emocional e melhorar a qualidade de vida. Nos doentes tratados para a esquizofrenia, pode melhorar a assiduidade aos controlos médicos. Embora não altere o curso de uma doença, pode trazer otimismo, um sentido de propósito na vida, generosidade e gratidão. A hipótese é que a religião pode modular secundariamente as percepções da qualidade de vida e as percepções do estado da própria doença, contribuindo, em última análise, para uma diminuição do sofrimento. É de salientar que, até à data, não existem publicações específicas sobre este tema e metodologia em língua espanhola.
